Happy New Year

Well here we are in 2024. I spent the majority of the yearly holiday leave period tinkering with further projects. Portainer, Docker, Nginx Reverse Proxy, and learning more about Cloudflare Access Tunnels. All the home lab stuff is now internet exposed and authenticated using OAuth and 2FA. Interesting project to say the least. I still have the Twingate stuff running so that if I do something incorrectly in Cloudflare I can still hit the home lab from outside. What’s next? Well, I’ve been looking at some different NOC dashboard systems such as Grafana, and data collection via Prometheus. I’ve installed Zabbix and am having a bit of a play around with that. For nostalgia sake I’ve spun up an IRC server (not accessible even via tunnels), just to play around with some of the configs. Currently the Proxmox is running 12 VMs. This year’s project may be spinning up a more modern Proxmox box with faster and more storage and CPU power. Currently it’s running a Xeon with 32GB of memory, which has been fine, but I’m contemplating spinning up ArcGIS Enterprise on Ubuntu 22.04 and that will require a lot more resources. I’d use the environment as a test lab for colleagues here at Esri Australia to use remotely. Once again behind Cloudflare tunnels to not expose the environment to the public internet without authentication. Should be exciting. If you run across this blog, feel free to reach out on LinkedIn. I turned off commenting (I believe) as all I saw were bots trying to post and I don’t feel like moderating all that at the moment. Until next time!
